Steven Mendelssohn

Principal and owner of the Watershed Group of Companies

STEVEN MENDELSSOHN, B.A., McGill University, 1982; LL.B. University of Windsor, 1985, is the principal and owner of the Watershed Group of Companies, including Watershed Law Professional Corporation, Watershed Labour Relations Consultants and Watershed HR Solutions Inc.. All of the Watershed companies are predominantly management side focused, providing advice counsel and representation on all aspects of Human Resources Law and management of employment issues, including but not limited to Human Rights, Employment Standards, Union Avoidance, Collective Bargaining and wrongful dismissal actions.

Steven’s career has taken him from private practice to the private sector and back into private practice. After spending two years at a downtown Toronto law firm, Steven moved to the private sector joining the Oshawa Group Ltd. as Director Industrial Relations and Employment Law Counsel. In 1995 Steven assumed the position of Vice President Human Resources Foodservice and Produce Companies (Now Sysco Foodservice) where he was responsible for leading the entire H.R, function, including all Labour Relations matters across Canada. After leaving Oshawa in 1997 Steven began a consulting practice with clients such as the Globe and Mail and Associated Freezers.

In April of 1999, Steven joined Loblaw Companies Ltd, where he held a number of senior positions including Vice President Human Resources for a number of distinct business units. Steven left Loblaws in February 2007 and returned to the consulting business and in 2010 he was a co-founder of Watershed Law. Recently, he launched Watershed HR Solutions, a comprehensive one stop service for small to midsized businesses. This service includes consultation with HR professionals, how to advice, documentation and managing all employee data through an HRIS system. As a practitioner, Steven prides himself in providing practical results oriented solutions to complex management and employee issues.
